April 18, 2013 - Business, The Web App Challenge

Three exciting words

Today I announced my latest book, Authority: Become an expert, build a following, and gain financial independence. It’s everything I know about self-publishing and launching a product online. You know that ebook you’ve been wanting to write? I’ll give you a a step-by-step guide to take you from idea all the way through to a successful launch.

authority

I can’t wait to share it with you. But that’s not the main thing I want to talk about. There are three words at the bottom of the Authority landing page that are especially exciting:

“Powered by ConvertKit”

Three months ago, on December 31st, 2012, I didn’t know what I was getting into. I hit publish on my announcement post for The Web App Challenge and got to work. Since then I tried out a handful of ideas, settled on one, hired a developer, wireframed an application, sold preorders, and fixed a ton of bugs. All so I can make today’s announcement.

ConvertKit, my product to make email marketing dead-simple, is now live and accepting new customers.

It’s not perfect. In fact, I’m sure you can find bugs in it (If you do, please let me know). But it works and I’ve already used it to gain hundreds of new subscribers and deliver several thousand emails.

So yes, the Authority signup process is all managed by ConvertKit, my own email marketing tool. I’m drinking my own cool-aid (and it tastes really good!).

Out of the few people that have subscribed (mostly from Twitter) the conversion rate has been really high at 35%.

I expect that rate to decline once the page gets traffic from lower-quality sources, but until then, that makes for a fun screenshot.

Go try ConvertKit

If you’ve been following along this whole journey, why don’t you go give ConvertKit a try? It has a 14-day free trial, so you can take it for a spin without paying a dime. Just know that to get the most out of it you need to put effort into your content.

If you have any questions, or find any bugs, send me an email. I’m always happy to help.

Nathan this book looks like its going to be super helpful! I started a design blog last year, and I’ve been slowly building up an audience. Now, I’m looking to publish a book this year, so your book should be pretty useful.

btw Nice job on the book graphic – did you design it yourself? I think your header graphic is a little too distracting though, makes it look like you uploaded the wrong low-res graphic or something.

Thanks for continuing to publish and teach others!

    Hi Nathan,

I was wondering – what do you use as the backend for ConvertKit? MailChimp?
