A first look at Authority

This last weekend was the busiest I’ve had in a long time. My sister was in town for my Mom’s graduation (Congrats Mom!) and so we spent lots of time with family. On top of that I’ve been working like crazy to finish Authority for tomorrow’s launch. Saturday was the craziest day: it started with 5 hours of work on the book and extras (more on that later), then Hilary and I took a scuba diving lesson (just for fun), followed by two soccer games (won one, lost one), and finally a graduation party.

It was tons of fun, but very tiring.

The point is, I’m working hard to finish Authority while still trying to have as much fun as possible!

A Preview

If you haven’t already, go read the article on teaching and Marco Polo that I published last week. It’s the best introduction to Authority. But now I’d like to take you through what is in the book in more detail. Here is the table of contents:

  1. On writing
  2. Basic marketing
  3. Writing, lots of writing
  4. Pricing & Packaging
  5. Design & Formatting
  6. Prepping for launch
  7. The Sales Page
  8. E-Commerce
  9. The Launch (And Beyond)
  10. Closing Thoughts

The book is 155 pages long and about 34,000 words. So it is focused content and doesn’t take too long to read.

The Resources

In addition to the book I have resources, video tutorials, and expert interviews. Here’s the summary:

Resources

  • The book in PDF, ePub, and Mobi formats
  • Choose from a large selection of iBooks Author templates
  • Sample book cover Photoshop files
  • A 90 day plan to write, market and launch your book
  • A free copy of my habit building iPhone app (for the first 30 customers only)
  • Landing page templates
  • 3 months free of ConvertKit (a $149 value)

Video Tutorials

  • Writing consistently (all of my best writing tips and tricks)
  • Pricing and packaging (these methods have made several readers over $10,000)
  • Picking a topic
  • Building an audience
  • Using ConvertKit
  • Designing with iBooks Author
  • Should you sell on Amazon?
  • Doubling your book revenue with workshops

Video Interviews

  • Chris Guillebeau
  • Michael Hartl
  • Brett Kelly
  • Benny Lewis
  • Matt Henderson
  • Brennan Dunn
  • Josh Kaufman
  • Brandon Savage
  • Pat Flynn
  • Steve Corona
  • Rob Walling

That group combined has sold over $4 million dollars of ebooks and related products—and they are all eager to share their stories as well as their best tactics with you. There is fantastic stuff in all the interviews, but I was most surprised by what Josh Kaufman had to say. I promised him I wouldn’t make it public (outside the book), so you’ll just have to watch the interview.

As a sample of the rest of the content, here’s the interview with Chris Guillebeau (who first convinced me to write 1,000 words a day).

To everyone who has helped or inspired me in this process, thank you so much! I’m so excited to see how you can use the ideas in this book to change your own business and life.

Authority comes out bright and early tomorrow morning. Stay tuned!
