One goal I set this year is to get better at celebrating milestones and accomplishments. So this post is both full of celebrations and just an update on what’s going on.
ConvertKit is growing like crazy
We had three consecutive months over $50,000 in new monthly recurring revenue, something we’d never done before. Even better it was during the summer, which is historically really slow for us.
We passed 25,000 paying creators using ConvertKit, which feels incredible. If you’re one of those creators who enables us to do what we love every day, thank you!
Last week we got the incredible news that we ranked #23 on the INC 5000 list of the fastest growing companies in the United States. Last year we were at #73, so it’s pretty special to make it in the top 25.
For more on our mission and the changes we’ve been making in the product, watch my keynote at Craft + Commerce.
I’m working on two books
Yes, it may be crazy to work on two books simultaneously, but the ideas for both are running through my head and putting them on paper is the best way to focus.
- Create Every Day — A guide to making the switch from a consumer to a creator and a roadmap to earning a living as a creator. This book will be traditionally published and I’m finishing up the proposal this month.
- Company Culture for Remote Teams — So many founders think that a great company culture and a remote team are opposed. At ConvertKit we have an incredible company culture and being remote plays a huge role in that. This guide, which I’m co-authoring with Ashley Alexander (our director of operations), will show a unique approach to culture and how remote teams can thrive.
For the second book I’d love examples, stories, and questions on culture. Email me!
Life is good on the farm
Our big project this summer was to convert a riding arena into a sports field. That went really well and we played our first volleyball game on it last night!
I’ve also been slowly working on building a tiny house that will be my office in the back yard. The shell is done and it’s weather proof, but I’m still probably only a 1/6th of the way finished with the entire thing.
We’ve also had some frustrations with a fox eating half our chickens (the electric fence malfunctioned). But we plan to relocate the fox and have a sturdier fence in place.
And saving the best for last…
Hilary and I are having a baby boy, due December 28th! Yep, that’s three boys. Life will be busy on the farm! It’s been a hard journey to get here and we’re so excited to grow our family.
All the best to you and yours!

CONGRATULATIONS!!
Keep critters away from your chickens:
Bury a 4’ tall piece of wire fence or hardware cloth (not chicken wire) under your fence. Lay it on the ground with about a foot inside the run and 3 feet outside. Put enough dirt on it to keep it from curling.
Keeps digging predators out.
I’m sorry about your birds. I’ve been in your position and it’s sad.

3 boys! Good for the farm – put those kids to work :)

Nathan, congratulations and wishing you continued success. You report on your company’s numbers which are excellent but you never talk about how it benefits you personally and your own net worth. Maybe this could be another inspirational piece for us.
Lynn
Congratulations. May God bless your family, Nathan. ⚘

I love seeing your name in my inbox. It’s like taking a mini vacation. It’s not too long and not too short, but just enough to make me feel recharged.

These are awesome news Nathan (maybe not so much for the chickens)! Congrats!
Thank you for sharing so much from behind the scenes and from your life.
Also, I’m very interested about your upcoming book Create Every Day, please let us know when it’s out.

Congratulations on ALL of this Nathan! This is awesome news; I’m so excited to be a part of ConvertKit as a customer!
ConvertKit done so much to improve not only my business, but also my quality of life by empowering and inspiring me as a creator and enabling me to reach more people with my own message. It started for me with the Craft & Commerce Conference this year, and now months later, the takeaways and results in my business are STILL tumbling out over one another! (I totally get the writing two books at once thing! ME TOO.)
My favorite thing about ConvertKit is the way the culture works as a WAVE- not just a ripple. Who knew you could make the world a better place with email marketing software?! Keep it up!
Markus
Great news! Can’t wait for the upcoming book!

Hi Nathan,
I think I good some good examples for your new book: Company Culture for Remote Teams.
You write “Email me”. Can you help me with your email or maybe link to a contact form if you prefer that?
All the best,

Congratulations Nathan! Huge news!
BTW – we have a virtual team of 13 and I cannot wait to read your book. I’ve been obsessing over culture and am excited to read what you guys have to share. As well, if we can be a resource for questions, etc., please let me know. You’ve always had our back, so we’re glad to help however we can!
