Cerro Gordo is one of my favorite places on earth—and not just because I own a small part of it. Each time we visit it’s incredible to live for a few days in a small piece of American history. From exploring the mines to finding the bullet hole in the wall of the saloon everywhere you look there is something special.
Last fall we drove the 11 hours from Boise to Cerro Gordo (it’s near Death Valley in California). This spring I wanted to take more of my family and friends, but make the trip extra special. So instead of driving we chartered a Pilatus PC-12 and flew a quick two hours into Lone Pine, the nearest town.
What’s special about the PC-12 is that it has the interior of a private jet and can land on short unimproved runways. Which is good because the FAA lists the Lone Pine airport as in poor condition, with cracks in the pavement and weeds growing everywhere. Turns out once we got there it was actually in pretty good shape.

We had a ton of fun in the town, the kids loved visiting again, and I loved getting to share it with family and friends. I hope you enjoy the video and don’t forget to subscribe on YouTube!
